Abstract

The current study aims at identifying fear of compassion for others, fear of compassion from others, fear of compassion for self, and attitude towards emotional expression among university students, and identifying the differences between male and female students in fear of compassion on the three scales and in the attitude towards emotional expression. Finely identifying the relation between (fear of compassion for others, fear of compassion from others, fear of compassion for self) and the attitude towards emotional expression. The researcher has translated Gilbert’s et al scale (2011) for fear of compassion, and Joseph’s et al scale(1994) for attitude towards emotional expression into Arabic, and computed the psychometric characteristics of both scales. The results have indicated that university students have no fear of compassion for self and fear of compassion from others but they have fear of compassion for others. They also have low negative attitude towards emotional expression. The research results have also indicated that there are no differences between male and female students in (fear of compassion in three scales).The research indicated that there are differences in the attitude towards emotional expression in accordance with gender in favor of male students. The research finding a positive relation between (the three fears of compassion) and attitude towards emotional expression. The research has presented several suggestions and recommendations.
