Abstract

In order to study the effect of home energy saving by improvement of shelter performance and occupants 'low impact life style, the coupling model of the transient simulation program with calculation model for indoor heat generation pattern have been developed. The simulated models were a detached house and appartment house located in nine cities of Japan. This paper firstly describes the computer simulation to understand the effect of each parameter related to the shelter performance and occupants' behavior in indoor. This calculation was done in each area under twenty-nine different conditions where one of the parameters was varied each time. Secondly the influence of several factors on annual energy consumption was estimated using the design of experiments (DOE). The DOE has been defined as a method to obtain the objective information through an effective experiment for the complicated combination of factors. These computer simulations reveal that it would be possible to decrease the annual energy consumption by not only the improvement of thermal insulation level of building envelope but also the shift of the low impact life style.
