Abstract

This study sought to investigate the mediating effect of depression on the impact of parents' negative parenting attitudes on adolescents' academic lethargy and smartphone overdependence. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on 340 first and second grade middle school students located in the Gyeongnam region, and the collected data were analyzed through correlation analysis and regression analysis using the SPSS statistical program. As a result of the analysis, first, it was found that there was a positive correlation between parents' negative parenting attitude, academic lethargy, smartphone overdependence, and
depression perceived by adolescents. Second, depression was found to have a mediating effect on the impact of negative parenting attitudes perceived by adolescents on adolescents' academic lethargy and smartphone overdependence. Therefore, this suggests that it may be important to develop various programs to reduce depression as a way to help teenagers who have difficulty with academic lethargy or overdependence on smartphones.
