Abstract

In this paper, we analyzed the changes in Korean contemporary history curriculum after liberation focusing on starting point and lower limit of contemporary history, characteristic of contemporary history education goal, composition of contemporary history unit contents. The analysis subject of this article is the curriculum of high school “Korean history” from the “course of study” to the 2018 revised curriculum. The starting point of contemporary history changed three times. The lower limit of contemporary history in textbooks is the policy of the current government during the 2nd and 3rd curriculum, and the national government index after the 4th curriculum. In the goal of modern history education, after the 6th curriculum, the ideology has weakened, and it has been emphasized to lay the groundwork for solving current problems based on a deep understanding of modern history. The contents of contemporary history were added in accordance with political and social demands, and sometimes progress in historical research.
