Abstract
The article describes experimental studies to establish the levels of moral awareness and competence of adolescents, as well as the dependence of the ability to reflect in the process of reading the text on these levels. The objective of the study is to substantiate the dependence of the ability to reflect on these levels of a recipient. To do this, the method of the identification of moral awareness and moral competence basing on a mathematical formula and percentage scale is used. Also, the survey of respondents in several stages is conducted. The results show that the average levels of moral awareness and competence are not sufficient for reflection on the text and the identification of more complex ideas or characteristics proposed by the author of the text. The research results can be used in teaching text interpretation and also in the process of developing individuals’ morality.
