Abstract

Copper concentrates from “Kuroko”, the complex sulphide ore, usually contain considerable amounts of zinc and lead as impurities. Consequently, the smelting operation is disturbed and their recovery is not satisfactory. In particular, it is considered that lower recovery of zinc in smelting is almost due to the slag loss. This report deals with the flotation characteristics of zinc in the slag from the copper blast furnace, using samples prepared in two ways, i. e. one quenched in water, the other slowly cooled in atmosphere. From these results, it was found that zinc in the slag could be recovered considerably from the latter slag as the form of zinc sulphide by the flotation process.
