Abstract
This study focused on the characteristics of many film crews with mixed identities as laborers and artists. The main concerns of this study are (1) the direct effects of film crews' artistic identities on their degrees of life satisfaction, (2) the double-mediating effect of satisfaction with their jobs and working conditions, and (3) the moderating effect of the staff level. An empirical study was attempted with 402 film crew members. Structural equation models were explored and a variety of tests were conducted, including the Sobel test and a multi-group analysis with AMOS. The notable findings are as follows. First, the identity of the artist in a film crew does not have a direct effect on life satisfaction regardless of the staff level. Second, the mediating effect of job satisfaction and working conditions is significant with regard to the effect of the artist's identity on job satisfaction but only at low level. To have a positive effect on life satisfaction for film crew members, identity as an artist indicated that not only their job satisfaction but also their working conditions are crucial mediating factors. Third, as an artist, the greater the identity, the greater the level of satisfaction with working conditions as well, but only at a lower level. The direct and indirect effects of the artist's identity, job satisfaction, and working conditions differ significantly according to the staff level; therefore, a moderating effect of the staff level is proved. Based on the main findings here, several practical implications are discussed.
