Abstract

This study examined the effectiveness of a mindfulness-based intervention program on stereotypic behaviors of children with high functioning autism spectrum disorder. The research method was semi-experimental with pre-test, post-test design with an experimental and control group. The statistical population included all children10-15 years with a high functioning autism spectrum disorder in Esfahan city in the year 2017. The sample was 30 children with high functioning autism spectrum disorder who were recruited by purposive sampling and randomly were divided into an experimental and control group (n=15). The tools of this study were the Repetitive Behavior Scales of Boldfish and colleagues (2000). The experimental group received 29 sessions of intervention (three sessions per week for 60 minutes). The educators of participants of both groups have completed the scale through individually interviewing. In this study, data were analyzed by analysis of covariance. Results showed that the Mindfulness-based intervention program had a significant effect on reducing the dimensions of Subjects stereotyped behaviors (repetitive behavior, Self-injurious behavior, Compulsive behavior, Sameness Behavior, Ritualistic behavior, Restricted behavior) (p < 0/001). it was observed that a mindfulness-based intervention program can be used to reduce the stereotyped behaviors of children with a high-performance autism spectrum disorder. Covariance analysis showed that a Mindfulness-Based intervention program had a significant effect on the level of all aspects of Stereotypic behaviors in children with high functioning autism spectrum disorder. Overall, it was observed that a mindfulness-based intervention program can be used to reduce stereotyped behaviors of children with a high-performance autism spectrum disorder.
