Abstract

This study examines Korean grammar teaching-learning method for advanced learner centering on cognitive approach. This while, a study on Korean grammar teaching-learning has not been accomplished actively. So a study on Korean grammar teaching-learning is required to diversify teaching-learning and expand learner's communication competence. ALM(Audio Lingual Method) lays excessive emphasis on pattern drill. ALM didn't contribute to expand of learner's communication competence. And CLT(Communicative Language Teaching) is suggested an alternative measure as Korean grammar teaching-learning method. CLT is practiced by communicative approach. It lays stress on meaning, skill(speaking, listening, reading, and writing) and communication. As a result of that, grammar education is weakened relatively. But it is necessary to teach advanced learner grammar directly. Formal instruction is effective in developing explicit knowledge of grammatical features. Explicit knowledge accelerates the process of acquiring implicit knowledge. Implicit knowledge refers to knowledge which is intuitive and procedural. Both explicit and implicit knowledge can be used in communication. And Korean grammar teaching-learning method by cognitive approach - especially focus on form - can be presented as a substitute of ALM and CLT. The principle of Korean grammar teaching-learning method based on cognitive approach for advanced learner is centralized to learner, process, communication, form. And the object of it is 'development of explicit knowledge' and 'raising grammar awareness'. The process of it is 'input - structuring - output restructuring'
