Abstract
A new method has been developed for determining nitrofuran derivatives (furazolidon, furadonin and furagin) in tablets and in urine, using an amperometric biosensor based on immobilized monoamine oxidase (MAO) and a printed platinum electrode. It is established that nitrofuran derivatives influence the catalytic activity of MAO like the classical tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), but this effect is weaker than that of TCAs. The limits of detection for furazolidon, furadonin and furagin are 8.3 · 10 - 9, 8.5 · 10 - 8, and 9.4 · 10 - 10 mol/liter, respectively. The results show that the side effect of furazolidon, furadonin, furagin on the MAO activity must be taken into account by patients administering and doctors prescribing these drugs.
