Abstract

This paper, reports on the design philosophy of the reinforcing details of reinforced concrete members, such as spacing of transverse reinforcement, maximum value of the required transverse reinforcement ratio and so on. Concrete models, taking into account the effects of the diameter and spacing of hoops, the hoop strength, the hoop shape and the presence of interior ties, were used. The correlations between the ductility of reinforced concrete members and the reinforcing arrangements were discussed, using these concrete models. Furthermore, the method to prevent the buckling of the longitudinal reinforcement was reported.
