Abstract

Chengde City is located in the northeast of Hebei Province, the transition zone between North China and Northeast China. Chengde City is the largest prefecture-level city in Hebei Province. According to the “Chinese Language Atlas” (second Edition)(2012), Chengde dialect belongs to Beijing Mandarin and Jilu Mandarin. Based on a field survey of 25 points in Chengde, this paper analyzes the phonology and meaning of special characters obtained from the comparison of the phonology of Chengde dialect (old) with the phonology of the Middle Ages based on previous studies. Compare and briefly explain the factors that cause the special pronunciations. The Special Pronunciations of Chinese words in Chengde dialect is roughly caused by six causes:1. The influence of the shape of the character on the pronunciation;2. The influence of word meaning on pronunciation;3. Save pronunciation after Middle Chinese;4. Pronunciations from different sources;5. The influence of external dialects;6. The influence of taboo.
