Abstract

In order to modify high-yield pulp a new bleaching of thermomechanical pulp (TMP) by NaOCl·ozone system was carried out.The results thus obtained were as follows : (1) TMP prepared from mixed soft woods was soaked in NaOCl solution (pH 11) for 10 min at room temperature (RT) and then after removing excess NaOCl solution, bleached with ozone at 20°C under gasseous phase.The amounts of NaOCl and ozone consumed under optimum conditions were 20.5% and 2.5 % on pulp, respectively.The brightness of TMP increased from 38% to 70% GE. The yield obtained after bleaching was around 80%.(2) NaOCl·ozone bleaching under above conditions results in increasing of water retention value and hand sheet of the TMP.The tensile strength and burst factor of the sheet increased from 1.6 km to 2.6 km and from 0.6 to 1.0, respectively. But tear factor decreased from 78 to 69.
