Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to bring light on the relationship between the coaching competency of the track and field coaches and the sport performance and deliberate practice of track and field athletes. To achieve this purpose, the study selected, as the subjects of the study, 274 student-athletes, from middle school to college students, registered as athletes at the Korea Association of Athletics Federations, and deducted the following conclusions after conducting an analysis through frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and standard multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 22.0 statistical program. First, out of the subfactors of coaching competency for track and field coaches, self-development competency had a positive impact on athletic performance, a subfactor of sport performance for track and field athletes. Second, the coaching competency of track and field coaches did not impact the deliberate practice of track and field athletes. Third, the sport performance of track and field athletes had a positive impact on deliberate practice.
