Abstract

The article considers some little-known aspects of the biography and creative and pedagogical activity of the outstanding Ukrainian choirmaster, composer, folklorist, music teacher and public figure H. H. Veryovka, born in Chernihiv region. It is emphasized that the formation of his creative personality was based on national musical traditions and was processed in the historical and cultural context of the Ukrainian Renaissance on the first third of the XX century. In the further conditions of the political pressure of the Soviet ideological system, which was destructive for the national culture, the artist managed to preserve certain aesthetic and moral guidelines, which determined the peculiarities of his creative and pedagogical activity. The influence of the H. Veryovka and E.Skrypchynska artistic couple in the formation of the Choir Conducting Department traditions of the Kyiv Conservatory is noted. E.Skrypchynska’s creative figure was the embodiment of deep academic knowledge and broad artistic erudition. H. Veryovka’s methods of musical and pedagogical work were based on imitation of traditions of professional and folk singing, acquisition and improvement of creative experience and conducting skills in practical activity. In hisclassroom there was an atmosphere of careful, inspired attitude to the performed musical works. The luminaries’ work resalts were the education of a cohort of talented students, who also became legendary figures of Ukrainian choral art. The article highlights the creative figures of famous choral conductors, graduates of the Kiev Conservatory, who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of Ukrainian musical art. In the creative and pedagogical activity of outstanding artists P. Muravskyi – longtime leader of the conservatory student choir, L. Venedyktov – a unique opera choirmaster and teacher,V. Kolesnyk – a talented musician and organizer, an active promoter of Ukrainian music on the West, there is a deep understanding of H. Veryovka’s creative method, the continuation of the traditions he started. The pedagogical heritage of H. Veryovka and E. Skrypchynska, the traditions of education of choral conductors created by them at the Kyiv Conservatory was important for the development of modern Ukrainian choral culture.
