Abstract

In the article on the basis of the analysis of scientific literature, the essence and peculiarities of self-development of a teacher of a higher educational institution are considered. It is noted that self-development as a phenomenon and psychological process is present within the limits of human activity. It is carried out in the process of manifestation of man's activity in overcoming not only critical but also traditional everyday situations. The basis of the process of self-development lies in the ability of its subject to make an expedient choice of their behavior based on a clear idea of their needs and the possibilities for their implementation. Self-development is a kind of manifestation of man's own attitude to the effects of the environment; as well as conscious and directed activities to improve the person himself. The basis of self-development is the development of the essential forces of man, which represent a combination of intelligence, feelings and his will, allowing in aggregate to develop the abilities due to the development of needs. Implementation of self-development as a special activity can be considered through the prism of three components: the ability to self-development as individual psychological personality features that determine the independent search, generation, capture and use in the life of new knowledge and skills in the process of active inclusion in various activities; knowledge of technologies and methods of selfdevelopment, since for the emergence of self-development skills, a person needs knowledge of how this process is carried out; volitional personality, as selfdevelopment implies the need to achieve certain goals that can change. The self-development of a teacher of a higher educational establishment is recognized as a purposeful process of qualitative development of culture, in which it is realized the desire of teachers to develop their essential powers, by enriching existing knowledge, acquiring and improving skills, improving personal qualities in the individual space of life and professional path.
