Abstract

The article examines the conceptualization of national and cultural stereotypes through the prism of the Ukrainian somatic phraseology. The paper provides a comprehensive analysis of cultural semantics of the Ukrainian phraseological units with somatic components and phraseological units, which codify and euphemize a human body, its natural functions. Euphemistic phraseological units are based on taboos in the Ukrainian linguo-culture, explicate natural interrelation of the somatic code with long-established cultural traditions of the Ukrainian people and conceptualize national and cultural stereotypes of perceiving reality. The somatic cultural code in the Ukrainian phraseology is an atlas of human anatomy where the upper, middle and lower parts of a human body are represented unequally.
