Abstract

The article considers the problem of the main personage’s image creation in H. Fielding’s novel “Bridget Jones’s Diary”. The paper aims to identify stylistic means used to create the literary personage’s speech portrait and to reveal the techniques to translate them into Russian. Originality of the study involves identifying lexical stylistic means used to create the main personage’s speech portrait in H. Fielding’s novel “Bridget Jones’s Diary”. The conducted research allows concluding that the main heroine’s speech portrait is created by different lexical stylistic means, such as metaphor, irony, hyperbola, etc. These stylistic means are translated into Russian using such translation techniques as assimilating translation, omission, substitution and compensation.
