Abstract

Ni-Ti alloy strips of the 54.8% Ni composition have been processed by direct powder rolling of blended elemental Ni-Ti alloy. The effect of the roll diameter and the initial roll pressure on the thickness and density of green strips are described. It is found that the coherent and flexible green strip has density of 65/70% theoretical, that the thickness of the green strip has been 1.2% of the roll diameter. The green strip has been sintered and then re-cold rolled. Sintering has been carried out in a vacuum at the temperature between 850°C and 1050°C. The density of the re-cold rolled strips reached at 93% to 97% when the total amount of deformation by re-cold rolling was 30% to 50%. It is found that shape memory behaviour of the fully processed strip is similar to conventional alloy.
