Abstract

Objectives This study is a descriptive research study conducted to confirm the effects of coronavirus anxiety, stress coping strategies and positive psychological capital on college life adjustment for nursing students. Methods This study conducted an online survey of 150 nursing students located across the country from April 8 to April 15, 2021. Data collection was conducted using a self-report questionnaire measuring coronavirus anxiety, stress coping strategies, positive psychological capital, and college life adjustment. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression using the SPSS 25.0 program. Results First, it was found that there was a significant difference in college life adaptation according to the type of residence and major satisfaction among the general characteristics of the subjects. Second, there was a significant positive correlation between stress coping strategies, positive psychological capital, and college life adaptation of nursing students, but no significant correlation with coronavirus anxiety. Third, factors influencing the college life adjustment of nursing students were found to be problem-solving among the sub-factors of hope, optimism, living style, self-efficacy and stress coping strategies among the positive psychological capital sub-factors and the explanatory power was 55.5%. Conclusions Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop and apply a program that can improve positive psychological capital and stress coping strategies for nursing students to adjust to college life.
