Abstract

Teaching mathematical concepts at the primary school Influenced by the social and educational context of Educational environment. They are many factors surrounding the teaching process, including the social and educational conditions surrounding the teaching, where this context does Influences on the teaching concepts process. These factors in are vary in their importance and the level of impact of the environment to another; so the current study aimed to identify the factors affecting on teaching of mathematical concepts at the elementary level in Saudi Arabia within the social context from teachers and supervisors view point. The study used Poll with open questions for teachers and supervisors, educators and specialists in mathematics education, and a group of open interviews with members of the research community, and then built a questionnaire to identify factors influencing the teaching mathematical concepts in grades: fourth, fifth, sixth. The questionnaire applied electronically and in paper on sample amounted to 600 people from different regions of the Kingdom (400 teachers, 200 supervisors) that were selected by a appropriate statistical methods. Some statistical tests were used, to find the differences between the teachers' responses to the questionnaire by their qualifications and experience, and the type of concepts (geometric, algebraic), Also percentages and frequencies were used to calculate the prevalence of factors. The study result identifies a set of factors affecting on the teaching of mathematical concepts in grades fourth, fifth, sixth, from view point of teachers and supervisors. The study also stated that the cultural context influences in determining the factors affecting the teaching of mathematical concepts. Also the study provided a set of recommendations and research proposals. .
