Abstract

Senior welfare centers used by the elderly perform their activities mostly indoors and implement diverse programs and so they need to have an effective color environment plan fitting each spatial trait. Thus, this study examined color environment of three senior welfare centers located in Busan city and sought to analyze importance and performance of users using IPA method. Results are as follows: First, in terms of total color environment, YR or Y group colors accounted for 78% of aggravate color components, showing that composition of color environment in senior welfare centers are limited. Second, in terms of color environment by space function, additional color applications might be required: B group colors for computer rooms; GY or BG group for halls; G or BG group for physical therapy departments; GY group for restaurants and lobbies; GY or B group for lounges; B or BG group for counselling rooms. Third, as a result of IPA Matrix by the facility, A and C facility had safety function in II quadrant, needing the top urgent improvement. While, B facility didn’t have any function in II quadrant but had safety function in III quadrant, showing the need for improvement of the facilities as well as user’s gradual cognitive change.
