Abstract

The evolution of the Internet has revolutionized the way we search for information in our everyday lives. Search engines are the most effective way to look for this information and so they provide a service through which users are being attracted to websites. The evolution of the internet has caused a remarkable revolution in many areas, most importantly the way in which information is sought in everyday life. Search engines are initially a means of effectively searching for information on the internet but then a service that attracts the public to corporate websites (Chaffey 2008). This dissertation seeks to evaluate the use of SEO techniques for information organizations, based on the websites of six library organizations. Specifically, in the present research, 6 well-known libraries were examined, in terms of their global ranking in the ranking lists and the characteristics of their websites. The libraries are the Boston Public Library, Bibliotheque National De France, Alexandria Library, New York Public Library, British Library and Library of Congress. The websites of the libraries were examined using specific software, each of which evaluates some parameters. The software is Similar Web, Checkbot, SEMRush, Backlink Checker, a load speed measurement software, and GTMetrix. The results of the research showed that the library of France is by far the first in terms of the number of visitors, while most direct searches are made for the library of New York and Boston, which attracts a significant percentage of its visitors through advertising, while the British Library has the highest percentage of random searches. Finally, it was found that the libraries that are higher in the ranking, have more keywords on their page and better performance on mobiles and computers.
