Abstract

In order to improve resource productivity of building construction, low material consumption building was designed. Intensities of resource consumption based on 1995 input/output table in Japan are applied for evaluation of this building and based building. In the results, the total resource consumption (Direct Material Input : DMI) of low material consumption building in construction stage is 1,535 kg/m^2, which is 29% lower than based building. A life cycle resource consumption is 91kg/m^<2.> a, which is 25% lower than based building. The steel frame structure has an significant effect of reduction of resource consumption compared with concrete structure. Furthermore, total material requirement (TMR) such as material consumption include 'Hidden Flow' is calculated. The result shows TMR is 3.7 times of DMI in construction stage, and 4.7 times of DMI in life cycle.
