Abstract
The article reveals the problems in development of production activities in correctional institutions of the penal system, identifies the prospects of employing convicts in the new types of production, dealing with processing and recycling of wood waste, generated in the course of reforestation works, resulting in new types of products (fuel briquettes, pellets, arbolite). Solving these problems will allow for the use of renewable resources and attraction of additional financial resources for the penal system.
