Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects on achievement goal orientation and sports commitment of soccer athletes from middle and high schools in leadership style of soccer coaches. For the completion of this study, 311 athletes have participated in this study. Reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis have been conducted for the data analysis. The followings are results. First, middle school soccer players were higher on the factors of practice and direction, democratic leadership, dictator leadership, social leadership, and positive feedback than high school soccer players in the leadership styles between middle school and high school from the athletes` cognition. In addition, middle school soccer players were higher on ego goal orientation in achievement goal orientation than high school soccer players whereas there was no significance in exercise commitment. Second, there was significance on leadership style of soccer players` careers in democratic leadership, dictator leadership, social leadership, and social leadership. Specifically, 3-6 years experienced players in democratic leadership were higher than over 6 years experienced players whereas under 3 years experienced players and 3-6 years experienced players were higher in dictator leadership and social leadership than over 6 years experienced players. In addition, there was significance between ego goal orientation and task goal orientation. Third, there was no significance among leadership style, achievement goal orientation and exercise commitment in coaches` age. Fourth, first round eliminated group was lower on practice and direction, democratic leadership and positive feedback in the event record than other groups whereas champion and advanced semifinal groups were higher in social leadership than other groups. Fifth, the positive feedback significantly affected ego goal orientation in leadership style. Sixth, social leadership positively affected exercise commitment. Finally, ego goal orientation positively affected exercise commitment.
