Abstract

The study aims to identify ways of manipulation in the discourse of the American President Donald Trump. The article pays special attention to the usage of verbal strategies and tactics employed in the politician’s acceptance speech, victory speech, as well as in his inaugural address. Scientific novelty of the study lies in determining degree of influence that various means of manipulation have on voters’ decision making. It was found that successfulness of D. Trump’s verbal manipulation largely depends on choice of linguistic means, through which political discourse nears the level of the ordinary Americans’ everyday informal speech, which promotes getting closer to the audience.
