Abstract

The purpose of the work is to consider the genesis and current state of European parliamentary monarchies in the context of the development of political systems of liberal democracy. The article substantiates that the parliamentary monarchy remains one of the typical forms of government in the conditions of modern political systems. The study is based on the use of historical, comparative and dialectical methods. The methodology of the work is formed by the need to clarify the institutional pa-rameters of modern European parliamentarism. The author argues that the formation and transformation of parliamentarism with elements of monarchical rule were the result of the development of political and historical pro-cess characteristic of various stages of modernization of a number of states of the European continent. It is concluded that despite the challenges of the post-industrial era, the effective combination of the institution of monarchical rule with political and economic freedoms, by joining the system of separation of powers, adopting the principles of the rule of law, the parliamentary monarchy retains the importance of an integral element of democratic transit for various modern societies.
