Abstract

We usually treated Peritrochanteric Fractures with compression hip screw (CHS). However it appeared that some unstable peritrochanteric fractures had difficulty in achieving adequate fixation. We used the Gamma nail in 25 fractures from August 1995 to December 1996. The Gamma Nail achieved adequate fixation especially for treating unstable or comminuted fractures, allowed immediate weight bearing whatever the type of frcture, shorter operative time, shorter hospital stay, and overall lower morbidity.
