Abstract

Afurther improvement of subjective picture quality for H.264/AVC High Profile coding is required to maintain stable broadcasting quality even under low bit-rate transmission. The macroblock coding mode decision is one of the key factors in improving coding efficiency. In conventional methods, this mode is usually decided based on R-D optimization criteria, and the selected mode contributes to the high coding efficiency. However, it is not necessarily appropriate to avoid the subjective picture quality degradation so an improvement of the coding mode decision scheme is strongly required. There-fore, we propose an advanced coding mode decision scheme. The proposed scheme selects the coding mode based on new evaluating measure in order to pursue the texture reality. Experimental results show that our proposed scheme improves the subjective picture quality improvement, and the DSCQS(Double Stimulus Continuous Quality Scale) gain reaches a maximum 8.6 points.
