Abstract
These essays in memory of Yuri V. Mann (1929–2022) contain scholarly articles and recollections by his colleagues, friends and disciples from different countries. Mann was a leading specialist on Nikolai Gogol, a scholar of 19th century Russian literature and literary criticism, Chief Research Fellow at the A.M. Gorky Institute of World Literature, and Professor at the Department of the History of Russian Literature at the Faculty of History and Philology of the Russian State University for the Humanities. The articles reflect the broad interests of Yuri Mann himself — from the history of 19th century Russian literature to problems of contemporary literature and literary criticism. The section “Commentator’s Notes” presents the experience of the team of scholars who worked on the Complete Works and Letters of Nikolai Gogol in 23 Volumes — a project initiated and headed by Yuri Mann. The section of recollections contains materials about the scholar’s life and work. The final section contains a bibliography of Mann’s works. The book is intended for scholars, teachers and students in the humanities as well as for all readers that take an interest in Russian culture and literature
