Abstract

The paper aims to analyse F. M. Dostoevsky’s short story “A Little Hero” in the aspect of its connection with the writer’s other works. Particular attention is paid to the use of elements of the chivalric romance in the short story. “A Little Hero” has not yet been considered from this perspective, which accounts for originality of the paper. As a result of the study, it has been found that the short story accumulates the key elements of Dostoevsky’s poetics, which are relevant both for the writer’s early novellas and novels written after his release from the labour camp. The basis for the short story’s commonality with other works is the idea of the protagonist’s spiritual transformation, which is given through the metaphor of a chivalrous feat.
