Abstract

The article deals with meaning and scope of the notion “language image” in its correlation with notions “national language picture of the world” and “individual author's picture of the world”. The peculiarities of the linguistic interpretation of the term “language picture” are analyzed and its main definitions are given. Modern linguists explain this notion as the way of world’s mapping in human’s consciousness and its representations by language means or as the interpretation of reality in language. This term means also the complex of language units and means, which represent ethnic perception of the world. The national language picture of the world is the way of nation’s identification and is connected with national mentality. In any fiction text the national language picture is changing according to author and his own picture of the world. Special attention in the article is paid to modeling of individual author's picture, which is based on national language picture of the world. The language image is a verbal equivalent of different objects and facts of reality, which are contained in the mind of speaker and are formed according to the peculiarities of the specific language system. As a component of national language picture of the world it is in the spotlight of ethnolinguists. The language image in author's texts can get symbolic and metaphorical meanings. It reveals the individual manner of world’s categorization and understanding. Key words: language image, national language picture of the world, individual author's picture of the world.
