Abstract

This paper aims to explore the need for expanding the scope and methodology of semantic prosody analysis. First, the scope of the co-occurrence relation of the node was expanded to include not only adverbs, but also subjects and words that modify them. The ‘category’ of the evaluative meaning of co-occurring words was analyzed by considering the context, and the ‘degree’ was measured using the KNU Korean Sentiment Lexicon. And the realization type of semantic prosody in the node was compared and analyzed by dividing it into type and co-occurrence relation. The results of the categorical and degree-based approaches to semantic prosody were compared. As a result of the analysis, first, the type of semantic prosody realization and usage patterns of co-occurring words were different depending on the node. Second, the usage patterns of subjects and adverbs were most similar to ‘giinhada-birotada’ and ‘birotada-oda’. Third, nodes with the same semantic prosody category could be compared more precisely by analyzing the degree of semantic prosody. This showed that there is a need to expand the scope of co-occurrence relation and methodology of analysis when analyzing semantic prosody.
