Abstract

The article analyzes the lexical units nominating space in the Taoist treatise “On Dreams and Visions” (the XIII century). The authors refer to the modern researches focused on the lexical units nominating space and conclude that in the Chinese language there are no standardized means to express these lexical units because the spatial function can be performed by different lexical units of the Chinese language depending on the peculiarities of the analyzed text. The researchers describe the function of the lexical units, which transfer culturally marked spatial images in the treatise “On Dreams and Visions” and some other Taoist texts and make a comparison with the peculiarities of the everyday use of lexical units with spatial meanings.
