Abstract

The purpose of this study is to promote the development of cultural contents based on sports. The current status and prospect of cultural contents based on sports were analyzed to accomplish the purpose of this study. Case study method was applied, and literature review and in-depth interview were conducted.<BR> As a result of an analysis on the current status of sports cultural contents from 2012 to 2016, 419 sports comics and 61 sports webtoons were published. Sports comics by country accounted for 93.6% in Japan and 6.4% in South Korea. As for major subjects, comics accounted for 29.8% of baseball, 18.4% of basketball, and 15.8% of soccer, and webtoons accounted for 32.8% of baseball, 23.0% of soccer, and 11.5% of basketball. 41 sports movies were released. Among them, the movies by country accounted for 42.5% in Korea and 32.5% in the United States. Major subjects of the movies made up 19.5% of boxing, 9.8% of baseball, and 7.3% of mountains. 467 sports publications were published. Major subjects of the publications constituted 46.7% of baseball, 37.5% of soccer, and 5.6% of the whole sports.<BR> As for sports cartoons, effective webtoons will appear, and sports movies will be produced based on real stories with new subjects and story. Furthermore, in the field of sports publications, an increase in the consumption of sports stars and behind stories is expected.
