Abstract
This study is about wealth out of several areas of physiognomy. Thirteen founders of Korean chaebol (財閥, conglomerate) and 21 founders of game business are taken for case study. Then, the theory of Oriental physiognomy is applied to 2 groups to analyze the common points and difference of physiognomy. The result of analysis is as follows. First, the common point of 2 groups is that the length of ear & nose is longer than Korean standard, which coincides with physiognomy theory. Second, the difference between 2 groups is that the length of ear, earlobe and vertical length of nose of founders of chaebol(財閥, conglomerate) is longer. Jeontakgung(田宅宮, area between eyebrow and eye) of founders of chaebol(財 閥, conglomerate) is also longer and wider, which means that the physiognomy of founders of chaebol(財閥, conglomerate) is more coincident to physiognomy theory. However, the horizontal length of nose of founders of game business is longer, which means that nose is wide and thick. On the contrary, physiognomy has premise that the end of ear should be higher than that of eyebrow. All persons of the case are opposite to it. This may imply that the standard of classical physiognomy is not applied to modern time. The common point of 2 groups out of physiognomy part appears on nose & ear. Discriminant analysis was done for 5 variables – length of ear, earlobe, jeontakgung(田宅宮), vertical length of nose and horizontal length of nose. Classification Results was high, 82.4%, which signifies that the difference of physiognomy between 2 groups exists characteristically. As a whole, the physiognomy of founders of chaebol (財閥, conglomerate) meets the theory of classical physiognomy. However, founders of game business show some inconsistency, which leaves task that physiognomy should be changed to theory proper to modern time so as to be fixed as modern science.
