Abstract
The paper determines the optimal degree of the genetic potential in stud bulls, depending on the quality of breeding stock. The study was conducted at LLC «Palep», Alnashsky district. The origin of the stud bulls was analysed based on the data from the CELEX program installed at the enterprise. In recent years, the seed of purebred Holstein stud bulls born in Russia and abroad has been used. The stud bulls that had lactating daughters were assessed. Irsad 4620 and Emir 298 stud bulls showed the highest indices of genetic potential among stud bulls of the Russian selection. Among foreign selection stud bulls Forum 69144947 and Patrick 51660096 demonstrated highest genetic potential indices. In terms of milk yields the stud bulls of the Russian selection showed a higher index of genetic potential (84,6 %). The figure was by 21,4 % higher than that of the foreign selection stud bulls. In terms of the mass fraction of fat and protein in milk, the Russian selection stud bulls had the genetic potential index of 97,7 % and 97,4 %, respectively; the difference from the foreign selection stud bulls was insignificant and amounted to 2,6 % and 3,8 %, respectively.
