Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of a school-based obesity control program based on exercise and behavior modification for obese elementary school children. The program was composed of strategies to modify exercise and diet habits and to increase self-efficacy. The subjects were 35 obese children. The program was implemented once a week for 8 session from Jun 13 to October 4, 2005. Body mass index(t=-6.59, p=.001) of the subject were significantly decreased after the intervention more than before test. Life habits(t=-6.59, p=.001), dietary self-efficacy(t=-5.48, p=.001) and exercise self-efficacy(t=-5.69. p=.001) of the subject were significantly increased after the intervention more than before test. This study supports that a school-based obesity control program based on exercise and behavior modification can be effective in weight control of obese elementary school children.
