Abstract

The Holy Qur’an was gradually revealed to the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, to guide people, enlighten their thoughts, and educate their minds. The verses that were revealed to him on different occasions and situations were exposed to various missionary purposes and were divided into two parts: a section that was revealed at the beginning, i.e. without one of the reasons that were termed as the reasons for revelation, such as verses depicting the Day of Resurrection and scenes of the Resurrection, and a section that was revealed after an incident or question, such as the question about the soul and about the crescents. And the two centuries and the like. The meaning of the reason for revelation is what the verse or verses were revealed on the days of its occurrence, including it, narrating it, or indicating its ruling, or (it is the science that undertakes to reveal historical events and facts that were the reasons for the revelation of the Qur’anic text). Knowing the reasons for revelation has a great impact on understanding the verse and knowing the secrets of its expression. There is no doubt that the ablest exegetes to perfect the interpretation and achieve it are the most knowledgeable of the reasons for revelation. This is why the Commander of the Faithful Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be upon him) was the most capable of people after the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, to interpret the Noble Qur’an due to his comprehensive or general knowledge of the reasons for revelation. In this regard, we can mention the benefits mentioned by the scholars, including the manifestation and clarification of the wisdom of the legislation, as knowing the reason manifests this wisdom in a way that increases the souls with tranquility and the hearts with firmness.
