Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between diverse skin colors and lip colors with empirical evidence. As a research method, five different skin colors and 12 lip colors are given to be paired in 60 experimental stimulants are formed. The survey was conducted on two groups of subjects in Seoul(N=100) and New York(N=100), using evaluation categories such as the makeup impression and harmony. The results are unfolded into two: first, except for lip color 1(Seoul) and 4(New York), when the lip color was applied to the diverse skin colors, the test subjects felt that the impression and harmony felt differently depending on the skin color even though the same lip color was used. It was statistically significant that the lip color and the skin color influenced each other when the subjects evaluated the impression and harmony of the pairing of the two. Second, between New York and Seoul subject groups, responses were different regarding the impression and harmony. Third, the correlation analysis showed that L* and C* of skin color and L* of lip color are strongly related to the pairing impression and harmony. In light of this discussion, it is necessary to identify relations between local consumers lip color & skin color in the regions where Korean cosmetic companies are implementing globalization strategies.
