Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the management status of the assistant teacher system of daycare center according to types of institution and job category and to suggest its improvement plan.
 This study conducted preliminary survey for 5 directors, 5 class teachers, and 5 assistant teachers of daycare centers in Gyeonggi Province. After preliminary survey, this study conducted survey research.
 The subjects were 372 directors, 319 class teachers, 125 assistant teachers of daycare centers in Gyeonggi Province. This study analyzed data using frequency analysis, crossover analysis, and χ2 test.
 The results of this study showed that the roles of assistant teachers’ carrying out or the contents of prior education were operated differently according to types of daycare center. The results that the assistant teacher system of daycare center was investigated from the viewpoints of the each position of director, class teacher, and assistant teacher also showed the meaningful difference by institution.
 Because the assistant teacher system of daycare center was operated differently according to types of daycare center like this, the support plan to fit the characteristics of each institution such as enlarging institutional autonomy should be arranged in order to improve the assistant teacher system of daycare center. As a result, it is significant that this study provides comprehensive data about the management status of the assistant teacher system of daycare center by investigating simultaneously differences in types of institution and job category.
