Abstract

This study attempted to examine the life of Anwoo(?∼1362) who made the greatest contribution to defeating the Red Turban invasions of Goryeo twice and recaptured Kaeseong in the 8th and 10th reigning years of King Gongmin. And it attempted to investigate the progress of the venting of his inveterate grudge with the understanding of the death of Samwonsu including Anwoo and so on. Moreover, it attempted to get an understanding concerning the reorganization of history on the Goryeo Dynasty after the founding of the Joseon Dynasty, the venting of inveterate grudge for Samwonsu such as Anwoo and so on over the course of establishing Sungeuijeon, the facility for the sacrificial rite to the royal family of the Goryeo Dynasty, and its relevant evaluation.BR Seen through this, Anwoo could exonerate himself of the crimes of killing the military leader arbitrarily and disregarding the king’s command [無君之罪] while going through the compilation of 『Goryosa』, the enshrining of the spirit tablet in Sungeuijweon, and the compilation of 『Dongguk Tonggam』. Furthermore, it was found that he was the victim of the wrong decision by the king to charge him with the unjustifiable crime without studying tricks carefully. Accordingly, the historical evaluation of Samwonsu such as Anwoo could be highlighted as the measure that reflected the political ideology of the Joseon Dynasty thinking importantly of ‘loyalty’ and ‘rectification of names’.
