Abstract
According to the recent progress of data processing system, for example the development of laser printer or high speed printing technique etc., an improvement of paper stiffness is required. It is said that the stiffness of paper is proportion to E * t3 (E : elasticity and t : thickness), it is therefore, necessary to increase at least either E or t in order to improve the stiffness. As the paper thickness affects on stiffiness significantly, it is expected that higher paper stiffness could be obtained if it is possible to restrict a decrease of paper thickness. Our research has been concerned about a method to improve Taber stiffness of paper by the new type of wet end additives in which the non-cooked starch grafted acrylic monomer is employed.
