Abstract

Abstract Modern folklore genres differently realize the folklore function of socio-cultural identification. The most popular, both personally and institutionally, are folk pripevkas as small song folklore genres. In this study, the functional specificity of the small song folklore genres and their transformations are considered in Russian chastushkas and Ukrainian kolomyikas. At present, small song folklore genres have almost lost the function of oral folklore communicative exchange organization. However, they are in demand in other communication spheres. They are formally and semantically flexible due to their outward orientation. Responding to modern people’s personal need in socio-cultural identification, the pripevka actively functions in people’s communication spheres that are not regulated by institutions. At the same time the pripevka text slightly transforms externally due to the specific conditions of its written form. The principles of genre world modeling are mostly preserved. The content, according to the principles of the genre, reflects the current reality. Political discourse is an institutional discourse that actively uses the pripevka. Reacting to the manipulative intention of the social institution, the pripevka significantly transforms the genre principles of world modeling. It loses the feature of the carnival ironic norm inversion: the norm is expressed directly from the standpoint of the political discourse agents. Genre transformations bring the Russian chastushka closer to the nuclear genres of political discourse.Keywords: Slavic folklore, discourse, folklore genre, small song genre, chastushka, kolomyika, genre transformation.
