Abstract

Our paper deals with the taxonomy of phraseosemantic field «Music» in English and Turkish languages. Taxonomy is a hierarchical structure of units. Almost anything - animate objects, inanimate objects, places, concepts, events, pro-perties, and relationships - may be classified according to some taxonomic scheme. Taxonomies are typically represented as having tree structures. So, within the phraseosemantic field ‘Music’ two microfields were defined. They are: ‘Musical knowledge’ and ‘Musical instruments’. The principle of classification of the microfield ‘Musical instruments’ is based on the most commonly used system in the west today which divides instruments into string, woodwind, brass and percussion.
