Abstract

Labor-saving works have been continuously pursued in Japan. It is difficult to measure, control, and systematize in the processes, and limitation of instrumentation, differences between PA and FA, and disadvantages of feedback control are not dealt successfully with. Development of tailor-made sensors, introduction of DCS and mill-wide system have improved quality of operation and products. Yet, many essential problems are still remained in the manufacturing fields. We cannot solve them by means of established theories, but we must apply original as well as experimental methods. Experience at Ishinomaki Mill, Nippon Paper Industries is reviewed.
