Abstract

Korean literature is the representative research field of Korean studies. Through the development process and current situation of Korean literature in China, we can easily get a sense of the present state of Korean studies in China. The Korean literature research in China was mainly focused on the field of classical literature before and after the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea in 1992, and the study of modern literature began only in the 2000s. In the meantime, the research capacity of Korean literature has been strengthened based on the establishment of numerous Korean language departments at universities in China. With the participation of Chinese scholars in the field of classical literature, high-quality research results were continuously published in Korean Chinese literature studies. In the field of modern literature, many achievements were published under the theme of Korean writers’ experiences in China during the colonial period, exchanges of Chinese and Korean writers and border-crossing narrative. The Korean literature research in China still lacks much in terms of influence in the research team and Chinese academia compared to British & American literature, Japanese literature, and Russian literature. However, it is also true that the Korean literature research in China has developed rapidly and has gradually become distinctive in terms of research perspective and method.
