Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present the activities of one of the contemporary representatives of the Armenian composition art, Professor Yervand Yerkanyan - a composer, violinist, musical and public figure, laureate of State Prize of the Republic of Armenia (RA), Honoured Worker of Art of the Republic of Armenia during the period of its independence. Our task is to comprehensively study and present the main directions of Yerkanyan's multiprofile activities - to collect the works written by the composer during this period and factual materials related to his activities. Descriptive and analytical methods were used for the research. During the period of RA independence Yervand Yerkanyan's activities evolved mainly in such spheres as creative work, organizational and pedagogical directions: 1. As in previous years the composer conducted an active and multi-genre creative activity, which resulted the production of multi-genre works. 2. Along with his creative activity, the composer carried on productive organizational activities. 3. Y. Yerkanyan continued teaching at the Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas. The Armenian musical treasury was supplemented with new valuable works as a result of active, fruitful creative and organizational activities. His patriotic activities in Armenia and abroad undoubtedly contributed to the preservation and popularization of Armenian music.
