Abstract

Pyometra was produced experimentally in 40 mongrel bitches by inoculation ofE.coliinto the Uterus with no cervix ligated. The highest incidence of pyometra was observed in the diestrous stage (88.9%), followed by post partum (70.6%), anestrous (50.0%) and proestrous-estrous stage (25.0%).It would appear to indicate that in the diestrous group the uterus was larger in size, weight and volume of pus than in any other group, although no significant differences could be seen.Almost the same condition of the pyometrial uterus with cystic endometrial hyperplasia (CEH) as the naturally occurring case could be found in some bitches in the diestrous group. Further studies were needed to decide when CEH could be produced in the diestrus.
